Pacquiao vs Hatton Prediction

By Jake Roberts: On May 2nd, Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao will go toe to toe for what is the ‘P4P’ championship. It already has boxing fans salivating at the prospect of their two all-action styles clashing in Vegas. There are so many intangibles with this fight I don’t know where to start, so lets examine their recent performances.

2008 was a phenomenal year for the Pacman, starting with a razor thin split decision over world class Juan Manuel Marquez. Despite the controversy, these two guys put on a breathtaking spectacle for twelve rounds and neither really deserved to lose. Next he disposes of the extremely game but limited David Diaz. Diaz was the perfect opponent for Manny’s lightweight debut; his plodding feet and not much head movement meant it was just target practice for the Philippines. Then in December he is catapulted into the big league with a dominant win over the Golden Boy, Oscar De La Hoya. Whatever people say about this fight you cannot deny this was a masterpiece by the little man. Ok, so De La Hoya looked a bit shot but you could argue that Pacquiao made him look like that. The speed of his foot movement, his balance and combinations just blew him away.

On December 8th 2007, the Hitman was picked apart for the first time in his career by the surgeon Floyd Jr. This was a competitive bout for six rounds, but Maywether showed why he is the best in the world, taking advantage of Hatton’s increasingly gung ho tactics. Ricky still has frustration about the way the referee handled the bout. You may agree or disagree; personally I feel Joe Cortez was getting in way too much during the first four rounds. Whether that changed the result of the fight who knows, only a rematch in England would tell us. The ‘homecoming’ win over Juan Lazcano was a rusty performance, presumably because he was coming off such a crushing defeat. Then it emerges that training camps with Billy Graham are not what they once were resulting in Floyd sr taking over the reigns. This proved a wise decision after he took his nearest rival, Paulie Malignaggi to school for eleven rounds. As a result of his new trainer he showed more jabs, feints and head movement, which he will need in abundance against Pacquiao.

An obvious factor to look at in this fight is the weight and the size of the fighters. Hatton was born at 140 pounds and his best performances have come there. Pacquiao has never fought at 140 and is therefore an unknown quantity. The weight was not really an issue for him against De La Hoya because he was allowed to box his own fight, getting in and out quickly without wrestling and inside fighting. I imagine the first thing Hatton will do in this fight is get inside and see how strong he really is. In my opinion Hatton will throw him around like a rag doll, which will take a lot more out of Pacquiao. The tactical battle of both trainers will centre on this issue, with Hatton trying to impose his strength inside and Pacquiao trying to box from the outside.

Strength and punching power are two separate attributes, and although I’ve never been in a ring with Pacquiao, I imagine his punching power is more fearsome. He has scored some incredible knockouts, albeit in the lower divisions and because of this we don’t know if he really has the power to stop Hatton in his tracks. In contrast we know Hatton is a good puncher in this weight class, not a murderous puncher but one who can hurt you with the right shot. This could be a telling factor as the fight unfolds.

Pacquiao has a clear speed advantage of both hand and foot over his opponent. He has the ability to hit his rival with combinations and get out of range before they have time to react. This is the problem that De La Hoya and almost all his opponents have encountered. Hatton is no slouch either but he will have to be very sharp if he is going to catch him consistently.

This piece is entitled prediction, and as such I must give one despite my shocking record. I think Hatton knocks him out in the later rounds of what is a great fight. I feel his strength, body shots and aggression will pay dividends in the second half of the fight. My guess is that we will see an end similar to Cotto vs. Margarito where the little man simply has nothing left and folds. A fanciful idea I know, but I’ve got broad shoulders so the Pacquiao fans can unleash their bile on me.

My Personal Prediction

I may disagree with this writer but at least he did his homework very well and is far better than mr donkin who studies all future fights in “extreme detail”. so detailed that he just compared hatton to a jackhammer. I still see this fight a very competitive fight for both men. but i can see pacman has an edge over the brit. Its not only the speed that can kill but the right combination when to throw . . . when to get in and how fast he can get out. Pacman has got it all right.

Pacquiao is a fast, hard hitting southpaw, great staminia, and has developed excellent boxing skills. People are undersestamiting his strength.

  1. i’m so happy that Pacquiao won the fight! he’s a really great boxer!

  3. I watched the fight tonight and I must say that Manny Pacquiao was THE best pound for pound boxer of the two. Poor Hatton didn’t have a chance. He ate his humble pie beginning on the first round and finally licked the dust on the second. Pacquiao was simply fast, focused, determined and obviously the better fighter of the two.
To all of you who judged Hatton as the possible winner, sooorrrry. And to those Filipinos who can’t find it in your hearts to support Pacman and wished him to lose the fight, shame on you. The man has courage, faith and seem to exude humility despite his fame and success in the ring.
He should inspire us to be better at what we do and to make use of our talent in a positive manner. Congrats to Manny and I wish him continued success.

  4. “In my opinion Hatton will throw him around like a rag doll, which will take a lot more out of Pacquiao”

Hatton will throw pacquiao around like a ragdoll??
i watched the fight a few hours ago and Hatton was knocked down twice in round 1, and finally knocked out on round 2…
    LOL…that was fast..

  5. bwahahahaha… manny is just too much for a slow ricky hatton…sorry guys but our man just won a 2 round knockout

  6. Naawa naman ako kay Hatton. (I feel sorry for Hatton). It hurts physically and emotionally as well, i guess. Sorry Hatton but our Pacman is one of our best fighter….and our best Filipinos are really the BEST (in the world). Pacman you invite Hatton here in the Philippines and give him a good time, we are good at that as well, di ba. Just don’t let Mayweather come with him…bugbog sarado yun dito hehehe.

  7. manny proved to the world for now as the greatest pound for pound figher…as what goldberg says in wcw “who’s next?” hehehe

    Manny!!!! what have youve done!!!!!!!!!!

    I said ROUND 8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    NOT ROUND 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. the one who talked shit a lot gets to eat shit!!! 2nd round TKO. what a shame… tlgang nakakahiya c hatton at ung coach mong bobo magtanim nalng sana sya ng kamote. mwahahaha

  11. Wow what a victory for Manny! I was expecting a battle, but instead I feel like I got cheated by Hatton.

I couldn’t believe how easy Manny’s victory seemed. Was Hatton slow, lazy, and stupid for lowering his right hand allowing himself to be so open or was Manny unexpectedly so fast and strong? Looking at the fight again this morning, Manny was truly faster and stronger. Hatton didn’t see this coming!

There was such a big build-up by the media of how strong Hatton was and could Manny throw a strong enough punch. The media was biased in thinking an Asian/Filipino couldn’t be that strong. But being a Filipino-American, I know that we’re stronger than we look. Muscle size doesn’t mean strength — although, together Manny didn’t look that much smaller than Hatton.

Wow! It was like watching Mike Tyson in his younger days.

  12. uhhmm.. i don’t really know how to start :). I felt sorry with Hatton when he was caught w/ the final left hook.

  13. i bet floydy loud mouth bitch is chickened shit at manny, no offense manny stopped hatton in two rounds which floyd done it at 10 rds..

  14. hahahahaha.. so much for the fuckin “experts” who predicted hatton to win.. LOL.. u guys are nutz just to even think about it. hatton maybe strong, but if he cant hit, how can he win? u shud have thought about that at first

  15. pacquiao won haahah you stupid losers.HE KNOCKED THE BITCH OUT!!hahah the little englishman fell three times.haah and if your filipino and was rooting for hatton, YOUR AN dare you call yourself a filipino.

  16. nice prediction… hatton throwing manny around like a rag doll. idiot. all you shit talking hatton lovers, talk your shit now.

  17. I love hatton coz his brit and his gay, he loves me to. mwah mwah hot hot hatton…

  18. Blame Mayweather Sr. for Hatton’s demise, couldn’t tell his fighter to back off a little bit and feel it out for a while. If you listened to Mayweather Sr. before the fight, you’d think he was God’s gift to boxing trainers. After the fight? You can’t find Mayweather Sr. anywhere near Hatton! It was just funny to see all those Hatton supporters in the MGM shutting up after the first round (especially the drummer boy who got a lot of video coverage – where you drummin’ now?). Brain wins over brawn again. Hatton shouldn’t have switched boxing trainers, he should have gotten an IQ tutor.

  19. Tikman mo ang Kamao….
Pag suntok ni Pacquaio, muling titigil ang Mundo…

  20. if pacquiao is to fight mayweather jr next., I think it will last up to 6 rounds(at most caus). TKO for pacquiao. Mayweather is a hit and run fighter. He wouldnt fight manny mano y mano. He would just be circling the ring trying to avoid manny. The only advantage for mayweather is his big mouth, just like his father’s.

  21. My Prediction

They’re fight would be the Last Fight….
They will both come out in the different side of stage….
Both national anthem would be sing…
As well as the US National Anthem…
There referee would be the actor look alike captain of Poseidon…

    Manny will be introduced first..
    then hatton will be followed….

Once the ring would be ring.. they will fight…

Hatton makes his move first doing his battery operated robot attacked… then Tumbles by right hook…

he will be counted.. and then recovered slightly..

Manny will unleashed is left supersharging punch to a covering hatton… but still be pummeled like a PAPER..

Hatton will fall and kneel and wait to count till 6 then get up…
Hatton will unleashed his hook at the final second but was snubbed by manny… coz 1st round will be over…

Big Mouth Mayweather sr, hattons trainer, will advice Hatton to wave he’s head
At the start of 2nd round , hatton will try to forged his doubling sight…
    actions will happened
faking his status… the bell ringer has its stomach ache coulndt wait to got to CR do ring the bell.. signaled mr. pacquiao to paste the KAPPWAAM on hattons face..

Manny makes A Dempsey Roll strike with side step super charge waist circling LeFT Super HOOK to Tuna like jaw of mr. hatton.. which we will not believe will shatter…

Thats all… Mr hatton will Fall flat on its face… nope its back like a big tree chopped saying TIIMMMMMBEERRRRRRRRR….

While remembering Hattons Trainer advised to wave his head… he couldnt move it…
so what he did is wave his eyes…

    ….hehehe.. Just watch the replay…

  22. ADMIN, if you wanted to make yourself look like an idiot, you did it. If you bet, I hope you lost alot of money. You deserve it.

  23. There’s only one Ricky Hatton,
    One Ricky Hatton,
    Walking along,
    Singing this song,
    TKO in a Hatton wonderland!

ahahaha, for all you Hatton fans!

  24. …. but I hope that everyone who badmouthed Pacman likes the taste of their own shit. you know who you are. mmmm, warm turd.

  25. Anonymous,

Thank you for the concern. I’m richer now because of my bet. thank you.

  26. i have to say two thumbs up for jun !!! hahahaha.. i love manny cuz he’s humble and down to earth.. anywaiz…. congrats my fellow fillipino!!! im so proud of you!

that was the best ko i’ve ever seen….

  27. To my fans sorry to disappoint you… manny is my type of guy i want him to win the fight for us to save our relationship hope you guys understand this…

  28. I miss you Ricky.. I want to spend my lifetime loveing you. mmmmwah! tsp!.. akish akish..

  29. There’s a new saying in town after Mayweather Sr. made an ass of himself… instead of saying “Kiss my ass!” everybody say “Kiss my Mayweather Sr.!”

  30. Mayweather is no match with my punching power.. the only edge he had over me is his defense but he does not have the punching power i have i will surely hit him eventhough he got good defense. I also have an iron chin. I can take all of his punches. and come back at him with more hooks and strghts. this is a no brainer..

  31. Lotta stupid comment on this site including the stupidest of them all, non other than the ADMIN himself. Don’t let your racial bigotry takes over your righteous way of thinking. Picking Hatton over the Greatest Fighter Of All Time is downright stupid. As you’ve seen the result, Hatton almost died inside the ring because of your stupid remarks giving him too much confident albeit is amateuristic knowledge of art in boxing. Brits have a long way to go in boxing before they can match the Philippine Typhoon.
