Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Who will be the Real Pound for Pound King?

Years of allegations, out of bounds discussions about the biggest fight in the world of boxing, the two superstars of boxing today are now going to the same way to make it happen. After the fight of Floyd Mayweather Jr. against Victor Ortiz, finally he got his guts to fight Manny Pacquiao. The collision will be on May 5, 2011, according to Leonardo Ellerbe, Floyd’s Adviser that, his client Mayweather Jr. desires to square against off to the best of the best in his next fight. “Floyd made it very clear that he wants to give the fans the biggest fights that are out there. He wants to stay active,” Ellerbe told Dan Rafael of ESPN. “We’re going to do everything in our power to make the biggest fight out here for the fans we all know what the fight is.” Ellerbe said that “We’re looking to make the biggest fight possible and everyone knows what that fight is the little fella.” And for the very first time Mayweather and advisors seems to be suggesting or requesting that they are open, legally in good terms with Pacquiao’s camp. And a week after Bob Arum the Top Rank boss said that a fight between Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao would never happen, because the former is deathly afraid of the latter’s right hand. Even though after Arum’s answered about that fight, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is very positive to that fight to happen, he already told CEO Richard Schaefer the Golden Boy Promotion, that whatever happens in that negotiation he will be in the ring on May 5, 2011.

But only one man can only be named as Pound for Pound King, after this two superstar boxers clash. Pacquiao and Mayweather Jr. have their different way to be called as the Pound for Pound King. Mayweather Jr. is known as the “Pretty Boy” Undefeated in boxing while Pacquiao called as the “Pound for Pound King” wherein Pacquiao have the 8 different divisions champion belts.

A Pound for Pound King in boxing is the one who dominates and won a championship belts in different weight division in boxing. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is qualified or candidate to be the Pound for Pound King, because his boxing record 42-0 and 26 KO, and he is rated as the Super Featherweight, Lightweight, Light Welterweight, Welterweight, Super Welterweight champion. What his secret? I think it is because Mayweather Jr. is a technical boxer wherein he calculate and figure out the weakness of his opponent and then he used that to his opponent to beat or knocked it down. We all know that sometimes he is a trash talker in or outside the ring but when inside the ring when he trashed talk he didn’t lose his focus and concentration to the fight he still remain calm and figure out and coping out with his opponent. And one thing that Floyd Mayweather Jr. has, that other boxers don’t have even Manny Pacquiao, is that Mayweather Jr. is a defensive boxer, as you review the replay fights of Mayweather Jr. even that fight was to close Mayweather Jr. can exchange lot of punches without getting hurt or receiving a hard punch to his opponent, take a look at his defense technique, his defense technique called as Philly Shell or Crab. His lead arm is placed across the torso usually somewhere in between the belly button and chest and the lead hand rests on the opposite side of the fighter’s torso. Torso means a human body excluding the head and limbs; trunk. His back hand is placed on the side of the face; his lead shoulder is brought in tight against the side of his face. This style is used by a boxer who loves to counterpunch. To execute this guard a fighter must be very athletic and experienced. Mayweather Jr. will throw a punch with his back hand as he rotate with his undefended opponent. But there is always a weakness in different style. When a fighter is stationary and not rotating they are open to be hit, and so a boxer who uses this style must be athletic and well conditioned.

Manny Pacquiao style is a boxer-puncher because he is well rounded boxer who is able to fight at close range with a lot of combination and techniques and power, and have the ability to knock out his opponent in a combination and in one shot. He also has the strategy called rope-a-dope he used this style in his fight with Miguel Cotto in November 2009 finished by a knockdown. Manny Pacquiao used mixed guard, he can guard himself and by swaying and doing sidestepping move, he can figure out where the blind side of his opponent and he will push through that and give the best shot on that spot.
